Read this week's message from Father Don
Dear parishioners
This year, as a countdown to Christmas, the parish will be co-hosting a series of nine evening masses.
The novena masses, known as Simbang Gabi to the Filipinos, will be held December 15 - 23 at 7 pm (except 5 pm on Dec. 21). The first five masses will be held at All Saints Parish while the last four masses will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish. Each night there will be special preaching, lively music, confessions and a reception.
“How to read the bible” will be the topic for the homilies during the novena. At the first few masses I will offer an introduction to the reading of scripture, while at the latter masses Fr Larry Lynn will present a simple process for reading the Bible in a small group.
Many Catholics find the Bible confusing. They want to read the Bible, but get quickly discouraged by the foreign names, unfamiliar places and puzzling details. So many questions arise: Who wrote the Bible? What is it actually about? How is God involved with the text?
These are some of the issues I will be addressing in my homilies.
Catholics need to learn how to meet God in his holy Word. To do this, it is very helpful to be given a basic introduction to the scripture and how best to approach it.
Christmas is a beautiful celebration and we want to prepare ourselves properly for it. Attending evening mass on December 15-23 is a wonderful way to prepare our hearts for Christmas
